Detroit’s April 18 CREW Careers™ needs volunteers, sponsors

Calling all CREW Detroit members: CREW Careers™ Building Opportunities is coming to downtown Detroit’s Compuware Center on Friday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  This exciting, interactive one-day educational program will introduce up to 40 high school age girls from the Detroit Public School’s Career & Technical Education program to career opportunities in commercial real estate.

CREW Careers™ needs members to get involved the day of the event and to support the event through sponsorship (http://www.crewdetroit.org/crewcareerssponsor.htm). Your sponsorship – no matter how big or small – will make a huge impact. If you are interested in giving one Friday and a few hours for a short training course, please contact Alicia Buisst, CREW Careers co-chair, 734.747.7737; Janet Stevens, CREW Careers co-chair, 313.253.4757 or Beth Bailey, curriculum co-chair, 248.336.9989 to determine the best way you can help. There is a role for each of us in CREW Careers, including opportunities to work one-on-one with the students.  Check the chapter web site’s “CREW Careers” tab (http://www.crewdetroit.org/crewcareers.htm) for a brief explanation of volunteer opportunities (http://www.crewdetroit.org/docs/CREWCareersPresenterVolunteerList.pdf), how many slots we will fill and minimum time commitment. Five judges are also needed for the event. They can be local real estate professionals, politicians or any person with a good, reputable local profile and/or influence that would add value to the event. To get involved or sponsor, call us – e-mail us – stop by our offices if need be! We are working with passion to make this event CREW Detroit’s signature event for 2008.

New quarterly "Breakfast with the Board" networking

CREW Detroit’s board is introducing a series of informal breakfast networking meetings hosted CREW Detroit board members. The CREW Detroit membership has been assigned to board members according to their work locations. Each board member will host quarterly breakfast networking sessions with this group of members, as a way of getting to know each other and finding ways to support each other. It's also an opportunity for board members to hear directly from CREW members about what's working and what's not working, so that together we can grow the organization. Please join us!

DEGC seeks Detroit sites for ICSC ReCon showcase

The Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) invites CREW Detroit members to submit commercial real estate sites in the city of Detroit to DEGC’s showcase of properties for the International Council of Shopping Center's (ICSC) annual ReCon Retail Real Estate Convention in Las Vegas May 18 through 21.  It’s free; participants simply submit property spec sheets including a photo and their contact information to the DEGC’s Tara Smith, a CREW Detroit member, at tasmith@degc.org.  For uniformity and consistency, DEGC incorporates each property’s individual information into a DEGC marketing piece designed to showcase sites to national retailers and developers at the conference.  Participants will have an opportunity to review their information before it goes to print.  Not all sites will be selected; “prime” real estate receives first priority, Smith says.  For more information, contact Tara by e-mail or at 313.237.4626.
