CREW Careers™: Building Opportunities is an
interactive, one-day “real estate 101” program designed
to introduce teenage girls to the many career opportunities available
in the commercial real estate industry.
On April 18, CREW Detroit will bring CREW Careers
to 40 girls from the Detroit Public School system’s Career
& Technical Education program. The event will begin with a walking
tour and commercial real estate “scavenger hunt” in
downtown Detroit. In the afternoon, the girls will compete for prizes
as they form project teams and plan the redevelopment of a real,
vacant high-rise office building. The competition will conclude
with a visit from the property’s actual owner and developer
and a guided hardhat tour of the construction site.

background
CREW Careers™ was developed by CREW
Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CREW
Network, and is designed to encourage more women to pursue careers
in commercial real estate, typically a male-oriented profession.
The program was launched in Dallas in 2004 and taken across North
America in 2005. In 2008, CREW Careers™ will grow to 28 cities
nationwide to reach more than 1,200 student participants.
The CREW Careers™ program is a response
to a study that CREW conducted that documented a lack of parity
between men and women in the field.
