CREW Careers® Building Opportunities
CREW Outreach Committee members are the stewards of the CREW Network vision. CREW Careers: Building Opportunities™ is our signature program, which introduces high school age girls to careers in the commercial real estate industry. This motivational and informational program provides the foundation for future CRE professionals. Students learn about the industry from CREW members who share information on their professions and insights from their personal experiences. Three in-school sessions provide the foundation for the CREW Careers main event day – where students become “developers for a day” and work in teams to create their own vision of a real-life real estate redevelopment plan. They present their plans to a panel of judges, competing to win. They demonstrate their real estate knowledge and the life skills we all need to be successful: focus, commitment, teamwork, strong communication skills, and taking smart risks. Since the inaugural event in 2008, CREW Careers has inspired more than 350 girls from Detroit high schools, as well as engaging more than 200 CREW members as presenters and volunteers. Several student alumni have pursued degrees in commercial construction, interior design, and real estate finance. CREW Careers is a favorite as a “first-event” for new members to get involved in CREW!
CREW Careers 2016 was be held on Wednesday, May 18 from 8-5pm at Quicken Loans in Detroit and this year’s theme was, “Generation Detroit.” Students from Cristo Rey High School, Golightly Technical Education Center and Detroit International Academy in Detroit will complete in the Design Challenge: design a plan for the adaptive reuse of a historic building in central Detroit.
CREW Careers draws industry and business leaders, senior government officials, local media (TV, Print, and Web) as well many, many CREW Detroit members. This event has shaped the lives of many. Click on the following links to view past CREW Careers events:
